[Minecraft] A Very Busy Day Indeed [beta 1.7.3]
Seed: absurdpirates
Oh, man. I kinda forgot to catalogue as I went on, so this may be a bit jumbly in the details.
For starts, I decided to add a little life to the interior of my house. Adding a little creeper painting to the wall, just above my bed.
I thought it would be a good time to build a farm. Farms are borderline useless in b1.7.3 as breeding isn't a thing, rendering the necessity large swaths of wheat obsolete. So, I decided to keep this one small.
I built a little fence around my house. Couldn't for the life of me figure out why my crafting wasn't working. I tried 2 planks 4 sticks, 4 planks and 2 sticks, nada... I was starting to think fences didn't come until a later update. Turns out, you need 6 sticks in order to make a fence in b1.7.3... which I'm fine with, it's cheaper on materials. So, I built that fence around.
I also found two wolves just outside of my house and was able to tame them with just 1 bone each... swank. Parked them both at the front door and vowed to not take them on any adventures, lest they end up like poor Sir Timothy Dexter
My two dogs within my new fence.
Left: O.J. Crowstairs (bonus points if you figure out THAT reference)
Right: Dogmeat
I realized I could use an infinite water source, but instead of doing the boring thing and just digging a 2x2x1 hole in the floor, I decided to make a well. I think it turned out quite nice.
I also started to get a general design plan for this base, it's growing in size now, and I wanted to create a pathway using cobblestone and some of the mossy cobblestone from that dungeon I found a few days ago.
It was at this point I started to experiment with building a mob farm. Since b1.7.3 doesn't have a very tall height limit, I was limited on the height and I wasn't about to explore for a few hours to try and find an ocean to build it over. So I went spelunking and tried to light up all the caves beneath me.
The nice thing about beta, is that pressing F3 shows entities' ID numbers, so I can get a look at where some of the caves might be. Is that cheating? Don't know, don't care, it's my world and I'll do as I please. Came out of it with a LOT of gold, iron, and redstone. No diamonds though :(
I proceeded to build my mob farm and, while ugly, it seems to be working well!
So, my ultimate goal is to make the big "Minecraft" sign that you can see in the tutorial levels in the early days of Minecraft Xbox 360 edition seen below:
This is going to be hard, as you can't farm sheep. You can't breed them, you can't guide them with wheat, and they despawn. So getting lots of wool is going to take quite a bit of time. You basically have to pray to Notch that some sheep will spawn by you. To which you then need to grab your shears, run like you are escaping a crime scene and rapidly approaching another one, and get that wool.
I went and found a desert to grab some cactus for cactus farm to get green dye. Built that out, and since mobs are about as bright as a pile of potato salad, it doubles as a mob killer and dye farm. 2-for-1 special.
I spent the last bit of time on this play session sheering sheep for white and black wool, killing pigs, and cooking pork chops. Overall, very active day and I feel like I've made some good progress.
